Game A Week: HansaQuest
Logan from Kotaku AU either has enormous testicles, or tiny ones and wants to appear as though they’re big. In any case, Game A Week is an act of titanic bravery.
The premise is just like the 7DRL comp, but the RL is optional, the concept is provided by someone else, and he has to blog about it.
Logan’s also given himself some restrictions:
1) No amazing graphics, they take too much time and I’m really arse at art.
2) Must have a score component, so you guys can show off your gaming mettle.
3) Must be complete and reasonably bug free.
4) Game must have an ending.
5) All games will be coded in Visual Basic .NET 2005. Probably the worst language to code a game in, but you’d be surprised at what you can do.
6) Game must be playable on most machines, so no 3D API use. Plus, I don’t know the first thing about Direct3D or OpenGL.
7) Each game must be coded within the seven days between releases.
8) All code must be original.
The first game, Wizkill, is up already, and took about two or three days.
Now for my Game A Week idea:
HANSAQUEST: A cross between M.U.L.E. and Puzzle Quest, where the player is a member of the Hanseatic League. It would take the basic character progression of Puzzle Quest, and apply it to a crazy real-time trading and cooperative/competitive mechanic reminiscent of M.U.L.E. It could easily be ASCII, single- and/or multiplayer, and depending on how you interpret it, easily do-able in seven days. Go to it!
