A Slightly Better Kindle

More info on the new stuff here. The most interesting feature is Whispersync, which lets Kindles sync to each other. Okay, that’s not particularly special, but apparently it will sync to other “mobile devices”, which is very interesting.

Viewing from afar (which is all I can do, considering there are still no plans for an Australian release), it’s sexier, but not sexy enough. Also, I hope there’s a very good reason to waste that space around the keyboard — we could either have a larger screen or a smaller device, either of which would be more preferable.

Finally, US$359 is stupid money, especially in a recession. This is Kindle 2.0 — the early adopters have version 1.0, so there’s no point keeping the price this high. All this will do is limit the market for e-book technologies.
